Mehndi decor ideas and what each one involves
Floral stages, phoolon ki chadar, swings, gendas and diyas, dhol areas and lighting: Mehndi decor ideas for Lahore families, and what each needs in space, time and budget.

Where should the decor budget go first?
Mehndi decor can spread across a dozen elements, and the money spreads thin with it. Decide what guests will look at most, and spend there. For most Mehndis that is the stage or the bride's seating, because it is in almost every photo.
After that, the entrance sets the mood as guests arrive, and the lighting decides how everything looks after sunset. Table centrepieces and small props come last. You can browse decor and tent services to see what decorators in Lahore typically offer.
Floral stage or fabric stage?
A fresh floral stage with gendas, roses and motia is the classic look. It smells wonderful and photographs well. It also needs to be built on the day, depends on what flowers are available that week, and costs more as you add volume.
A fabric and prop stage uses drapes in mustard, green, orange or pink, with lanterns, pots, truck-art panels or wooden frames. It can be set up earlier, it holds up in heat, and it usually costs less. Many families mix the two: a fabric base with fresh flowers at the front edge where cameras see them.
What about the phoolon ki chadar?
The canopy of flowers held over the bride as she enters is one of the most loved Mehndi moments. Ask the decorator whether they provide it, what it is made of, and who holds the poles. A fresh chadar is heavier than it looks. Make sure the people carrying it know the route and the pace, and that the path from the entrance to the stage is clear.
Swings, gaddas and low seating
A decorated jhoola for the bride, or low seating with floor cushions and gaddas for close family, gives the Mehndi a relaxed feel. A swing needs a solid frame and a level spot, so check with the decorator that it is safe for the bride's outfit and weight. Floor seating suits a home or lawn Mehndi but not a hall where elderly guests need chairs, so plan both.
Lighting that works after dark
Most Mehndis run into the night, and lighting is what makes decor look expensive. Fairy lights in trees, hanging lanterns, diyas along the walkway and warm uplights on the stage all help. Ask the decorator how many lights are included, whether they bring their own generator connection, and how long setup takes.
Be careful with real diyas near dupattas and fabric drapes. LED diyas look nearly the same in photos and remove the risk.
Space for dhol and dancing
If your family has prepared dances, leave a clear floor in front of the stage with good light on it, and think about where the dhol players and the sound system go. A small raised platform or a rug marks the dance area and keeps guests from drifting into it. Tell your photographer where it is so they can plan angles. Our guide to planning a Walima has a run sheet approach that works for Mehndi too.
How do I brief a decorator?
Share photos and rough sizes of the venue, the colours you like, a few reference pictures, your guest count and your budget. Ask for a drawing or a mood board, a list of every item included and the setup and removal times. Prices vary a lot by date, size and the share of fresh flowers.
Agree who removes the decor and when. Venues often need the space cleared the same night, and fresh flowers wilt quickly, so ask whether family can take some home afterwards.
To get several decorators to quote on the same brief, post a decor request on Bandobast with your price and notes. Offers arrive within 24 hours, and you can compare what each includes.
Common questions
What colours are traditional for a Mehndi?
Yellow, mustard, orange and green are the most traditional, often with pink or red accents. Many families now pick their own palette.
Are fresh flowers worth the extra cost?
On the stage and the phoolon ki chadar, they usually are, because those appear in most photos. For the rest of the venue, fabric, lights and props stretch the budget further.
How early does Mehndi decor need to be set up?
Fresh floral work is usually done on the day. Fabric, lighting and props can often go up earlier. Ask your venue how much setup time is included.
Can we do a Mehndi at home?
Yes. Many families host Mehndi in a home lawn or on a rooftop. You will need to plan tenting, lighting, power backup and seating with the decorator.
How do I compare decor quotes?
Ask each decorator for an itemised list and a mood board for the same brief, then compare what is included, not just the total.
